Oh the irony that life is so busy with good things to blog about that I don’t have any time to blog about them. Besides pictures of my iPhone my kids won’t have much record of the first 4 months of their lives. Thank goodness things are beginning to fall into place in something that resembles a manageable routine and at 7:45pm I find myself in front of my computer with time to blog. It has only been recently that the babies will go to sleep at a consistent time and stay down without countless rocking sessions.
We never thought this day would come. And yes we are thrilled with a life that includes 8pm bedtimes for adults, two nighttime bottles, 6:30am wake-ups and four naps of crying a day. Because this is actually an improvement to the insanity that was.
Lack of sleep aside, you have to check out the personality on these kiddos. We knew it was in there and one day it would start to come out and we’d be addicted to their smiles, laughs, weird faces and unique quirks.
Soren. He is our observant, more serious child. He studies faces and objects but particularly seems drawn to ceilings and building structure. He is sensitive to light and wind and still has a bit of a startle reflex though it’s really calmed down since he was born. When he went through his difficult weeks of screaming every night and we were exhausting every avenue looking for the reason he was so unhappy (if you’re curious chiropractic and removing lactose from his diet really helped) he was labeled our difficult child but as soon as that ended his gentle, quiet nature returned. As a preemie he was our Benjamin Button, a little old man baby with a furrowed brow. He has grown into quite a big boy, over 12 pounds at 3 months past his actual due date, with a gentle voice who loves to suck on his chubby fists and hold his perfect little lips in a round shape as he coos. He is my beautiful cuddly angel boy.
Marlow. Can’t stop kissing those chubby cheeks. I said one day in the NICU that she had a sparkle in her eye as though she was born with an inside joke. Those smiling eyes are now joined by a huge toothless grin and the most joyful squeal. She appeared to be the more patient child as she waited quietly when we had to deal with poor Soren’s troubles, but it was just the calm before the storm. If you don’t know her warning signs you’ll feel her wrath seemingly out of the blue. She has a temper and I doubt you’ve seen a baby turn that shade of red out of anger. It’s worth those moments for the smiles she gives away to everyone. She can hardly contain her joy sometimes and it comes squealing out of her at anyone who will listen. She loves an audience though she has been known to have a sudden attack of mommy’s girl and wants to retreat to my arms where she can continue showing off from safety. I cannot wait to hear what this bubbly child has to say when she finds her words. No doubt she will keep us entertained, and on our toes.
Man, in the craziness of this life it felt good to take a half an hour and tell myself about my kids. They are really amazing, sometimes I forget that. Thanks for the reminder, blog.

Don’t you just love blogging for that reason? to see yourself typing wonderful things about your babes reminds you they exist!! and re-reading these entries on harder days can be so helpful too.
So nice to hear about them, and their unique character traits so far. Also, they look VERY different. Lo after mama, So after papa I think, but then again people tell me Lily looks like Brad’s GRANDMOTHER and I couldn’t see that to save my life, so take it with a grain of salt
They’re beautiful, that’s for sure.
